Dry air, strong sun and a garage slab that takes the heat

West Richland sits on the same dry side of Washington as the rest of the Tri-Cities. At the Pasco Tri-Cities Airport station, NOAA’s 1991–2020 normals show a July average high of 92.5°F and only about 7.6 inches of precipitation a year, with January lows near 27.8°F. Few places in our service area give a garage slab a hotter summer and a drier year. Not much snow, but plenty of cold nights. When the afternoon high averages above 90°F in July, the slab in front of a south- or west-facing garage door soaks up the sun for hours. Hot tires and fluids are hard on bare concrete.
