Spokane Valleyās snow, deicer and wet garage floors
Spokane Valley incorporated on March 31, 2003, according to HistoryLink, and the city says it now has more than 110,000 residents. The NOAA 1991ā2020 normals for Spokane International Airport show about 45 inches of snow and 16.5 inches of precipitation a year, with December and January the snowiest months and January lows near 25°F. Croc Coatings has installed 1,700+ floors across North Idaho and Eastern Washington. Sources: City of Spokane Valley: Snow Removal and NOAA 1991ā2020 climate normals.
Frozen nights, thawing afternoons. At Spokane International Airport, NOAAās normals show about 132 days a year with a low at or below 32°F and about 34 days when the high never rises above it. The roughly 98 days in between are the ones that wear on concrete: frozen at night, above freezing by afternoon. Pore water freezes, expands and thaws again and again, scaling garage slabs and patios and widening cracks. We moisture-test, grind and repair first, and the Penntek polyaspartic system goes over a prepared surface. Residential floors have a lifetime warranty.
Snow plans put deicer on the roads
The City of Spokane Valley applies liquid deicer on bridges, arterial intersections, school zones and hillsides when snow or frost is predicted, and a granular deicer when ice builds up, though it says deicer is generally not applied to residential streets on the valley floor. Cars still carry arterial slush and grit home. On bare concrete, it soaks in and sits. A sealed, non-porous flake floor keeps it on top where you can rinse or squeegee it out.
Multi-car garages and moisture
A Spokane Valley garage in our Showcase was a multi-car space. The crew checked the slab with digital moisture meters, ground the surface, repaired cracks, applied a moisture-mitigating primer and then a high-solids polyurea basecoat in Shale Hybrid, a full broadcast of flake and a polyaspartic topcoat. Bigger garages mean more slab to check, and the moisture readings decide the primer.
Front porches, walkways and patios
Two Spokane Valley patio projects in the Showcase are a front porch, walkway and rear patio finished in Claystone Hybrid and a patio and walkway in Mt. Everest 1/4-inch flake. Both were prepared by grinding and moisture testing. Outdoor concrete here freezes, thaws and takes a shovel, so we aim for a slip-resistant finish.

Spokane Valley projects from our Showcase
These photos come from the public Croc Coatings Showcase, filtered to Spokane Valley. They include a multi-car garage and two outdoor projects.
Shale Hybrid multi-car garage, Spokane Valley
The crew evaluated the slab with digital moisture meters, ground it to the right profile, repaired cracks and applied a moisture-mitigating primer. A high-solids polyurea basecoat in Shale Hybrid, a full broadcast of flake and a polyaspartic topcoat finish a non-porous floor that is easier to maintain than raw concrete. See this project in the Showcase.
Claystone Hybrid porch, walkway and patio, Spokane Valley
The front porch, walkway and rear patio were ground and repaired before a Penntek polyurea basecoat and Claystone Hybrid flake went on. A polyaspartic topcoat gives a UV-resistant, slip-resistant surface. See this project in the Showcase.
Mt. Everest patio and walkway, Spokane Valley
After rigorous moisture testing, the crew applied a polyurea coating system and finished with a Mt. Everest 1/4-inch flake blend, described as slip-resistant with a granite-like look for the backyard. See this project in the Showcase.
OUR SERVICE AREA
Do you work in Spokane Valley, even though you are in Post Falls?
Yes. Our shop is in Post Falls, Idaho, and we serve Spokane out to Cheney and up to Nine Mile Falls. There is normally no travel charge, though some outlying projects have one that is shown on your quote.
Can you coat a three-car garage in Spokane Valley in one day?
Most garages up to 900 sq ft (up to 3 cars) are installed in one day. We ask that you wait 12-24 hours before walking on the floor and longer before driving on it, depending on temperature.
Do you handle moisture problems in Spokane Valley slabs?
We test every slab. If readings are high, we can add a moisture-mitigating primer, as on the Spokane Valley garage in our Showcase. Extreme moisture is a reason to talk before you buy anything, and we will tell you plainly what we find.
Will winter deicer and slush damage a coated floor?
The sealed polyurea/polyaspartic topcoat keeps meltwater and deicer on top of the floor. You should still rinse or squeegee after a storm. Our guide on how coatings block salt damage covers it.

How It Works
A Spokane Valley project follows six steps:
1: Preparing Your Floors
We shot blast or diamond grind the slab, using HEPA-filter vacuums on the grinders.
2: Repairing Your Floors
Pits and cracks are repaired with Penntek menders and fillers.
3: Applying the Base-Coat
A self-priming, 100% solids polyurea base-coat is applied.
4: Hand-Casting the Chip
We hand-cast vinyl chip over the wet base-coat.
5: Scraping the Chip
After the base-coat cures, loose and vertical chip is scraped and vacuumed off.
6: Sealing the Clear Coat
A UV-resistant polyurea/polyaspartic clear coat seals the floor.
